Config 2025 Recap! Designers Can Slop Code Now Too!!
We can slop code now too!!

TL;DR They made some big announcements at Config this year:
A Canva competitor
A site generator
Grids
Expanded vector and drawing capabilities
Some AI app builder thing like Lovable (*chanting* designer slop designer slop)
Last Thursday at Config 2025, Figma made a few huge announcements, and one announcement that made me and like 6 other people happy. Put simply, Figma came right out and said 'we are not strictly a UI/UX tool'. They are not only coming for every type of vector design tool, they are coming for a slice of the AI app builder market too. They are coming for Canva, Adobe, Framer, WebFlow, Lovable, and Bolt all in one go. I don't know how many birds Dylan Field is hitting with one stone but damn.
The reports of Figma's death are greatly exaggerated.

Figma Buzz is a shot at Canva and Adobe Express. It's a simple, template-based design tool for non-designers. There are some cool templates available, it's dead simple to use. Not much more to say about it. Good addition.
Sites

Figma Sites is Figma's new static site generator. Now, instead of rebuilding designs in Framer or sending Figma files out to a developer, you can now publish designs as live static websites. If you are already familiar with Figma's normal design and prototyping experiences then nothing in here should surprise you.
The site builder is very similar. Figma Sites also comes with preset layout 'blocks' to help you get going, and interaction presets to make your sites come alive. As far as features go, Framer Sites is pretty bare boned. Not exactly the Framer killer some made it out to be for now.
Grids

One of the few updates announced for the core product, but a big one (to me) nonetheless. CSS grid support for autolayout. Now all of you bento box dorks can create as many bento box regions as your heart desires
Figma Draw

Here was Figma's shot at Adobe Illustrator. Buy out didn't go through so might as well try to take them on I guess. Kidding, but these are very welcomed vector editing updates. Figma has added new brushes, textures, a shape builder, and a new pattern builder as part of the new Draw experience
Figma Make

Here we go, the Big Dog announcement. Figma Make! Figma's direct shot at Lovable and Bolt, and their answer to all of those "RIP Figma" posts. Last year Figma attempted to enter the AI game but quickly shut it down and went back to the drawing board after an embarrassing bug was discovered. Go from design to a functioning app in seconds, within the same app. The demo looked cool, unfortunately I haven't tried it yet. I'm also not fully sold on vibe coding yet. This mostly just feels like a cool toy right now?
I would like to see Figma expand their use of AI in the product to at least say spit out live coded UI components based on an organization's design system/Figma library. That would be sick.
Designers can make slop too, and God damnit we will make slop.
Figma, though. I love you. the announcements were great, but please give us some more features related to design systems please. I'm begging you.
